Agreed with the above user, you have a knack for storytelling.

I can sympathize you re: going to a stylist who is absolutely horrid but who you can't part ways with due to loyalty.
My (white) friend used to cut my hair (afro) with a razor to create layers, when she should've (and I didn't know this at the time) used scissors. Razor-cutting only works for certain hair types; for others, like me, it just means split-ends. So I would go to her to get rid of split-ends, but obviously that kinda worked against me. For years I couldn't figure out why my hair had stopped growing and was a mess in general.

I'm still mortified about my do back then.

Thank you, too, that's so nice of you! And gahh, you must be familiar with that horrible feeling when the person cutting your hair finishes and proudly shows you their new hair masterpiece, and you're trying not to be killed by your reflection.
