Well, technically, the "white stripes" on her boots are about as close to the white and red crosses on Australia's flag as to the Stars and Stripes.

There aren't very many flags, or heraldic symbols in general, which have that particular kind of starfield, period.

Like I said, it's meant to look American to Americans. But as a whole, her original costume is a sufficiently different design to be its own thing, due to the lack of the six horizontal stripes and the addition of various gold elements.

White and red crosses on the Australian flag? The only thing close to that on the flag is the Union Jack. Now Denmark or Switzerland have white crosses on red fields. Australia does have stars on a blue field though, but not in rows.

I...yes, I meant the Union Jack. That sentence got rewritten in a muddled way after I realized that the Blue Ensign flags are mostly blue and Wonder Woman's costume is mostly red.

But yes. Blue field with white stars, and in another spot, red with white highlights.

Do people really think that she's wearing a US flag? That's interesting.

The pants are what does it, they seem very reminiscent of the stars on blue in the American flag.
