If you said it in a Southern drawl, I'd probably just chalk it up to Southernness, unless it was in a specifically condescending context, lol.

In general I hate being called "honey" etc. by strangers but if I'm in the South and in a diner and the server does it I might not even notice because I realize for certain cultures it's just how they talk.
