Captain America: Civil War
(Anonymous) 2016-09-01 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)Has anyone else felt this way with Marvel movies lately?
(Also why was Martin Freeman even in it? He was completely pointless...)
Re: Captain America: Civil War
(Anonymous) 2016-09-01 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)I expect Martin Freeman will be coming back in a later movie.
Re: Captain America: Civil War
So, you're not alone, OP. And frankly, I hated Martin Freeman being there because he served no real purpose and I don't care for him in general. I also had no sympathy for Alfre Woodard's character because...it sucks that her son died, but you expect me to sympathize with her because the Avengers are the indirect cause of his death when y'all live in a world where aliens exist & supervillains are doing shit on the reg? Byeeee
Literally the only reasons I'm even excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming are because of cast members I like.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-01 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)also I feel like this movie had a little less of the big CGI spectacle action sequences than some of the more recent Marvel movies? (AoU, I'm looking at you....) But, I really loved the movie, so I'm kinda biased.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-01 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)(Not saying it was as bad as Into Darkness, mind you. Just that it had the same sort of overstuffed feeling.)

Re: Captain America: Civil War
(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 12:08 am (UTC)(link)I felt the same with most of the earlier Marvel movies. The action was new and fascinating back then. But I realised when I was watching CA:CW those feelings had completely gone, and I was actually impatient to get back to the characters just talking to each other.
I didn't feel this way with Winter Soldier -- I still think the scene with Fury being stuck in his car was fucking amazing and lends itself well to rewatches. I don't know, Civil War's action scenes was just too much stuff happening all at once, and it just make it seem repetitive and unmemorable. Maybe I just like action when it focuses on fewer characters, IDK.
Re: Captain America: Civil War
But I'm also someone who wanted less Avengers in my Cap movie so my feelings towards Civil War are iffy(I really need to rewatch it so I can figure out if I do like it because there are definitely things I enjoyed in it: T'Challa being the main thing).
Re: Captain America: Civil War
(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 01:55 am (UTC)(link)I agree with pretty much everything you said, especially Spider-man. I found him annoying and unnecessary, especially since he wasted time that should have been spent on the main characters, or who *should* have been the main characters -- Steve, Bucky, and Sam. There were hardly any conversations between them which was really disappointing. I think it needed it, especially Steve and Bucky. It made the whole movie seem...impersonal.
It really did just feel like Avengers 3. I think that's what made Winter Soldier so good, because we got to spend more time with just Steve and Natasha, or Steve and Sam, and it wasn't this huge cast crammed into one movie without the time to sink deeper into the characters.
I did think T'Challa was pretty cool though, and he seemed like a good and rational person. I'm now way more interested in seeing Black Panther, so I guess that worked :P
Re: Captain America: Civil War
It's definitely Avengers 3 in my head and I think what bugs me more is that there was a lot of 'don't worry it's still a Cap movie' from Marvel and well, that wasn't true so it's made me somewhat bitter about the whole thing. Yeah TWS allowed for some really nice intimate character building scenes and CW just didn't allow for that because it was so rammed full.
Ha see, do I get excited for Black Panther or quash it all because what if it's shit? (Though since it's his first movie he should get a lot of breathing room, it's the 2nd and 3rd installments I've got to worry about on that front). But yeah I really enjoyed him and it's because he got an actual arc in the movie, my Cap faves just kind of meandered around for 2 hours imo. :/
Re: Captain America: Civil War
(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 02:21 am (UTC)(link)You're right, T'Challa's story/characterisation had a beginning, middle, and end, but all the other characters just argued and punched each other the whole movie.
Also, I really love your Isabelle icon :D
Re: Captain America: Civil War
Why thank you. :D
(She's just very pretty in general, my gosh).

(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 02:40 am (UTC)(link)Re: Captain America: Civil War
(Magnus is my fave with Alec or Isabelle as my 2nd fave, it's hard to choose sometimes because I mostly like them all).
Re: Captain America: Civil War
(Anonymous) 2016-09-02 06:07 am (UTC)(link)(I'm pretty sure Martin Freeman was in the film to set his character up for future films, which is one of the huge issues I'm having w/the interconnecting of the franchise - every film feels like it's a promo for upcoming films).
