I don't find this at all surprising, the features that work very well in drag don't work as well on an average male face. Meanwhile, the features of an average male face don't work as well in drag.

Yeah, I agree. Lots of fishy looking drag queens are funny looking men - and it doesn't help that a lot of professional drag queens do stuff like shave their eyebrows.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-03 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The eyebrows are really not helping him there, yeah.

Although, look at Willem or Courtney Act - gorgeous as guy or gal.

Welcome to the magical world of makeup.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-03 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
If nothing else, that's a lot of contouring and anyone would look vastly different if made up like that.

Also, as much as I like androgynous-looking people, I don't think the things that make feminine-looking women attractive and masculine-looking men attractive are necessarilly compatible, so it makes sense people wouldn't possess them all together in the same face.

Just 100% agree. As a woman he's stunning.

Honestly, when I watched this week's episode I kept thinking that out of drag he looks more like a woman, but a butch woman.

It's still....very much the same face, though. A shitton of make-up, very well applied (which it is) will make you more attractive.

Really? I thought Alyssa is pretty ugly in drag as well and has some of the worst makeup. He has so little space on the lower face, and overdrawn and super shiny lips just unbalance it even more and makes it look like there's no chin at all and the mouth is attached to the face at the bottom. like a lamprey or leech. And the eyes always look drawn in with a blunt crayon.

That's very vivid description, anon. I probably wouldn't have put it like that, but I also never liked Alyssa's makeup at all. The proportions are weird, even accounting for exaggerated drag styles and showmanship.

It's about the furthest thing from my personal taste but I usually like a lot of Alyssa's makeup, aside from the twelve packs of lashes she tends to glue on. Then again, I'm a shitty judge of aesthetic.

Meh, they look the same to me, with the exception that the left one is wearing a ton of makeup. The face on the right is exactly what you'd expect when it's taken off.
