I could have submitted this secret. I love Darkover - it was a huge part of my adolescence, and I still think there are some amazing stories there. But I have to agree with you that Ross isn't doing a great job with it. I tried to read some of the newer books, and didn't really succeed :(

Eh, some of them are better than others. But whenever I see someone writing in another person's world, I always consider it only half a step beyond fanfiction (Todd McCaffrey from a secret a few days back is another example) and sometimes it's not the same. She has been doing it for some time now - certainly before the revelations about MZB.

Hastur Lord was not one of the better ones. But I do like Fall of Neskaya.

As for the "taint" of MZB, there was a fairly large circle of writers who saw her as a mentor, and IIRC, a lot of them made excuses for her or tried to muddy the waters when the story of the abuse broke. I would regard anyone who contributed to the Darkover anthologies and the Sword and Sorceress series as tainted until proven otherwise.
