Re: Seemingly progressive things that actually sound skeevy

Oh, absolutely. I've experienced that too since I grew up in a very conservative, fundamentalist area. I'm very sex-positive myself, I just feel uncomfortable with the idea of judging women who don't want to, whatever the reason. And as someone who has done a lot of research on trafficking, while I'm pro-prostitution in theory and think it should be de-criminalized for the prostitutes, I think the way pimps treat many if not most of them is criminal and if not trafficking is pretty darn close. So I struggle when I hear feminists talk about being pro-prostitution full stop without thinking of all the implications of that.

Ah, I definitely see where you're coming from, then, and I do agree with you. Though I will venture to say I also do not like the culture of shaming anyone for their sexual choices, which is sadly more abundant than it should be.

And I guess I didn't think about people who don't consider the big picture when it comes to prostitution. To me, it just makes sense that if you're worried about someone's welfare, you're concerned with all angles. That some people are just flat out "yay, prostitution" is a revelation. At least now I know! Thanks!
