Stuff that you'd write BUT.....

What's something you've been wanting to write except for one specific hangup?

I like to write fics that explore characters on the autism spectrum in fantasy worlds and how the world accepts or doesn't accept them and the issues around that. I worry that people will see me as doing it for "brownie points" or whatever but I have it and I just like to explore people with it in fictional universes.

Also I prefer to make a character on the spectrum rather than force a character into it like a square peg in a round hole, but that usually means making an OC, and a lot of people seem to hate stories with major OC characters, so there's that.

Don't worry about doing it for brownie points, worry about the outrage squad that will descend to dogpile you with angry insults about how you are doing it wrong. These days the criticism an author gets for not takling an issue is better than the reaction they'll get if they do. It doesn't matter how well they do, even if they were to do it perfectly the outrage squad would still descend. Especially if there is an industry dedicated to "advising" and the author didn't pay the members of that industry first.

I've been meaning to write some meaningless smut for some of my rarer pairings just to see if anyone else would dig on it, but I've been working so much lately that it's kind of killed my creative drive. :(

I'd love to write a fic dealing with a character and their partner having to come to terms with the character's sexuality--or rather, asexuality. But I know how much people can't stand the whole "asexual" thing and are like "how dare you" even though it can sometimes fit an established character...
