[Rupaul's Drag Race: All Stars 2]

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2016-09-04 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I do love Adore but I was so disappointed with the way she behaved. Gurl, you're not untouchable and perfect. No one is. That's kind of the point of All Stars.

I disagree with the choices there though. Bring back Ganga! Holy shit do I ever want to see her and Phi Phi in the same room together lol

(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I could take Laganja and Alyssa in the same room. GURL POP GURL MMMHHHKAY *BUG EYED STARE AT CAMERA, DEATH-DROP*

I'm sad about Adore, I love her. If she wasn't 'right for drag race' she should have played up her own strengths instead of trying to fit it and at least gone out in style, but depression is a hell of a mindfuck and if the process was exhausting for her then, well, it's my loss as a viewer and I hope she recovers her emotional stamina.

Apparently they didn't even show most of Michelle's critique on screen. People have said it was savage.

But tbh I agree. Adore has had great success outside of Drag Race, I don't get why he needed to come back. To prove what, exactly?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Also apparently it wasn't just Michelle, Raven Simone and Carson were also pretty harsh, and Adore was just generally dealing with depression that year.

But yeah. Adore really doesn't need the show. He didn't need to come back.

The problem with that success, as Danny very briefly mentioned on the show, is that he also has A LOT of really brutal social media haters who hate his drag style and have been absolutely disgusting about the small amount of weight he gained since his season. Among other things.

He essentially came back to prove that his style stood up against the more femme styles. I guess that critique was just too much or too personal?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
and what they did show of Michelle's critique really was outright bullying and over the line. It was completely unprofessional. The "apology" she gave the next day didn't help matters at all. After a first critique like that, I wouldn't be able to expect any professionalism from the panel towards myself and would want to walk too. RuPaul evidently wanted her to stay, but RuPaul also wasn't going "hold up, that's not right" either.

Apparently, there is also history of bad blood between Adore and Michelle from the tour.

It wouldn't be Courtney because Rupaul doesn't talk to her anymore, and tbh I don't think Joslyn is strong enough.

I would have LOVED to see Bendela though. The only reason I can assume she isn't is maybe she didn't want to take time off from her one woman show? Too bad though.

As much as I think Dela is adorable, I'm not sure if I would put her up against the other Queens this time. The girls coming back are incredibly evolved. Like, I wouldn't bring Bianca back either because of the same reason.

While All Stars 2 filmed, Adore's bf had just broken up with her and her dad had recently died, so she was already pretty beaten and depressed, hence why this was too much.

I think Adore at her best is so different from most other queens that she was a welcome addition to me though; and as much as I love them all I could have done with less of a season 5 reunion... I'd love Carmen Carrera, Milk, Max; or the crowning glory of season 1: Ongina. Not to talk about the ones that should have been in this vastly superior edition of All Stars instead of the previous mess; Jujubee, Manila, Yara Sophia and ofc the one and only Latrice Royale.

Hey, don't knock Rujubee. The literal best part of AS1

(Anonymous) 2016-09-05 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I knoooww. And I do love Raven and the Fashion Reviews she does with Raja, but she's expressed so many shitty options that kinda knocked down my love for her an inch – I still adore her but she's not in my top picks for a return.

And also, her lips are starting to scare me a bit

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Man, that sucks. Probably caught in a perfect storm of "I don't have the energy to do this fucking show right now" and "it's too late to back out on contractual obligations." I do feel bad for her on that point.

That said, it was obvious from the get-go that Adore's style has changed in a completely different way from the others and she would have been eliminated sooner than later anyway. I don't hate her drag, it's just not generally what Ru is looking for in an All-Star who devotes the next X years of their drag career touring and shilling for Ru's brand.

I think this is fair: the show does like a certain type of drag queen. And someone not fitting into that does not make them a bad drag queen (despite how some people act), it just doesn't make them a good queen for the show's format.

anon that wrote about Adore's situation here, to keep us apart

True true true. I think it's pretty obvious why she was brought back – she's the most popular drag queen on all social media rn, her fanbase is huge. Which is probably another reason she dropped out – she doesn't need the 100 000 dolla'h, or the extra fame. I mean, that could have been a reason for her making it further in the competition as well, I guess, and the other queens sorta like her. It's sad we'll never know
