Civilian Star Trek, or Buffy in Space were the two ways it were marketed. Presumably because brutish thugs doing nasty shit and fighting a well meaning government just would not fly. Especially after 9/11.

I think I got more of the "Buffy in space" then, which is also not what it was, despite River Tam.

fighting a well meaning government just would not fly.

How much of the show did you watch? Because it's made pretty clear that the government does pretty horrible things, including using a child prodigy as a science experiment...

You don't have to like it, obviously - to each their own! That just puzzles me.

Ah, yes, the well-meaning government that tortured children and cut pieces of their brains out, sent psychic psychopaths to recapture one of said said children and murder anyone who even met them, bombed and generally murdered the fuck out of civilian groups for having ever met the people sheltering one of the children they'd tortured, and killed the vast majority of a planet with an overdose of mind control drugs then covered up both the complete colony wipe-out and the fact that the 1% or so who survived had gone completely bugfuck insane and were now raiding colonies and eating people.

That well-meaning government?
