I dunno about the lack of period dramas. There was Versailles, and the new Victoria series. Both of those were great.

I haven't seen either of those yet, they look pretty great. But I think I meant pure romance, like Persuasion or Jane Eyre etc.

Well definitely not Versailles then. But Victoria is Victoria first falling in love and not getting Lord Melbourne but then instead falling in love with Albert. The latter of whom, spoiler alert, she marries.

I'd like to see a movie, or better yet a miniseries of Spring Moon, and that's a Chinese period drama.

... I wouldn't call Versailles a period romance a la Austen and Heyer. It's not the same thing at all.
