Looking for a Sci-Fi Novel

(Anonymous) 2016-09-04 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Might be a Silverberg work, maybe.

I can remember it involves sleeperships and a guy who doesn't go into cryosleep but does become really long lived and gets super large nose and ears for some reason. I remember that for some reason Earth is totally forgot about and abandoned, and at one point a couple of teenagers unwittingly end up on Earth without knowing what planet it is, and they eat snails which they think are some sort of berry.

Anyone help?

I can't help with the novel, but the soft cartilage of the nose and ears is one of the only tissues in the body that keeps actively growing through old age! It's why you see very old individuals depicted with hooked noses and droopy earlobes.

The more you knoooow~
