Missing the point much?

There are OPINIONS, and then there are opinions.

Things that may indicate intelligence: OPINION on Iraq War, OPINION on economic crises, OPINION on the imagery used in a classic novel. These require quantitative/qualitative facts to back them up. If the facts aren't there, the OPINION falls through.

Things that DO NOT indicate intelligence: opinion on how much sexual tension is between two fictional characters, opinion on the emotional impact of a movie, opinion on who/what is hot. These are based on emotional responses and gut reactions.

That's the fucking point.

So OPINION on Iraq War and OPINION on economic crises aren't opinions? Hah. Emotional responses take a part in almost any OPINION or opinion. Try a different differentiation next time.

Also, you might want to take a psychology class yourself that actually deals with intelligence. All it is is what intelligence tests test for. Srsly. There is no definitive definition of the word, and even the idea of intelligence differs from culture to culture.

In closing, please get a clue before you try to state fact.

I was making a distinction between (largely) reasoning-based opinions, and opinions based largely on emotions.

Of course emotions enter into fact-based opinions. My opinion is that not all opinions have the same bearing on a person's logical reasoning skills.

I was stating my opinion about intelligence. I know that there are, like, 5 different school on the actual definition of 'intelligence'. Whether there are different types of intelligence, or if it can all be summed up by IQ, or if 'intelligence' can even be measured at all, given what studies into the 'genii' like Einstein have shown about their unique childhood experiences.

So you have a point: I am stating my opinion as a fact. That's wrong. Perhaps I should be talking about 'logical reasoning skills' rather than a blanket term like 'intelligence'. According to my own reasoning, you have every right to judge my intelligence based on this opinion.

I don't mind if you think that I'm a dumbass based on my reasoning (which may very well be horribly flawed.) But based on what I ship? That pisses me the hell off.

But yes, you're right. Basing your opinion of someone just on who they ship? It's a silly and immature thing to do. Although, maybe you should just take a step back from the computer next time something like that happens and realize that in the long run, these things don't really matter all that much.

Of course, if people did that more, this community would only be full of "I SHIP IT" and "FIST OF AN ANGRY GOD" and "I WANT TO BE THE ____ TO YOUR _____" secrets.

Yeah, I am capable of admitting when I'm wrong (or when I say something stupid). And I'm also willing to admit that my opinion may not be right.

I just, ya know, believe that it is.

I did post that secret when I was very pissed off, if that's any excuse at all. I know that it doesn't matter; I have more important things to worry about. I never claimed to entirely rational, either.
