It might not be a helpful comment, but readers don't get to decide what a writers write about.

Well, the reason why it's not a helpful comment isn't because it's untrue, but because the OP hasn't actually suggested that readers should get to decide what writers write about. You're opposing an argument that nobody has made.

It's pretty normal in fandom to make off-hand remarks wanting more people to jump onboard with a rare pair or a specific AU. Though it is pretty shitty when people beg artist/writers to write a ship or scenario they don't care about.
