I can really see both sides of it. It's not nice being told to sit down just because you show an interest in something, but as someone who enjoys writing, I always encourage people to take it up and have fun with their own ideas and stories. I can't imagine that anyone wouldn't get something out of writing (even though I hear that's true, I can't wrap my head around it). I honestly think writing could be a fulfilling hobby for anyone and everyone, so yes, write it! But at teh same time, I don't want you to shut up about what you like. (I also won't write anything *I* don't want to write just because someone asks for it, though.)
