Eeh, I think it's just right now Trans Headcanons are in that sweet spot where they're too many to easily avoid, too few and too new to shrug off as a weird unrealistic fan trend, and too sensitive a topic to be openly salty about.

Plus there's that awkward divide where you have "Writers should be able to write whatever!" vs "People are allowed to feel awkward when something is very personally squicky. "

Like... I dunno, the line between people who watch HTTYD with an amputation fetish vs. actual amputees finding their fetish fic/art and having strong personal opinions about it. It goes to an awkward place with no easy answers.

I don't think it's too few and too new to shrug it of as the newest shiny fetish fandom trend. Because that's exactly what it is.
