The usual, I guess. Every woman on TV is skinny. Glasses = nerd, get contacts = hot. @_@ And anything that mocks, psychoanalyzes, or stereotypes non-skinny people. The asshole dude that the cool woman falls for because he's just SO irresistible when he insults her constantly and can't do a damned thing. Every friendship (if m/f) becomes sexual. Every friendship (if m/m) doesn't. The usual, you know.

I don't know where that trope even comes from. In kid/teen stuff especially, it's treated as a fate worse than death when half the kids I knew wore glasses, including popular ones and certainly not just the nerds...

Nerd = reading a lot = ruined eyesight = glasses. It's a very old fashioned way of thinking of things.

Or perhaps, working a different stereotype, Nerd = diminished physically, including eyesight = glasses.
