I mean, I didn't think the main draw of it was really "horror", per se? It seemed more like mildly creepy events. I'm not sure I would even really classify it as horror in the modern sense - so maybe that's the issue? You were expecting horror, but this isn't quite horror.

I don't watch enough horror to really analyze why I liked this and don't like horror - most horror just makes me unhappy, because you've got horrific shit happening to basically nice people. I guess here the fact that they were fighting back, and that it basically had a happy end did a lot for me.
I did find the pacing, plotting, and characterization very solid and enjoyable.
