If OP is lgbt, I can why they wouldn't want to go.

I think Russia is a super intresting and a beautiful country, but their politics and laws are seriously disgusting and I wouldn't feel safe going imo.

Ehh...idk. I'm gay myself and I've been. It's a nice place to visit, honestly! And most of the people genuinely hate what their politicians are doing (much like the US population towards their politicians). It's true that it's not LGBT friendly, exactly, but as long as you're not proclaiming it from the rooftops or grabbing people of your gender to make out with in the streets or something, you're probably not going to run into a lot of trouble. Everyone just assumed my girlfriend was my sister or friend.

What country do you think OP lives in that is super LGBQT friendly without disgusting policies/laws? Russia's got issues, yes, but, you know, gay people live there right now. There's no particular reason why a gay tourist couldn't visit.
