Fry bread!

Yes! There are no fry bread tacos outside of powwow season here. :(

Chocolate chips bagels. My mom used to get them from Albertson's when I was little, but no Albertson's here :(

Boiled peanuts and candied apples.

Boiled peanuts seem pretty simple. Candied apples aren't difficult, but hot sugar can be scary.

I've made them once since moving to OK but raw peanuts are just so dang hard to find. :(

Really? Wow. I forget how spoiled I am with natural food stores, where they have bulk bins of raw pretty much every nut. I do miss when they used to sell raw peanuts in the shell at this one store, though; I'd feed them to the bluejays and when they invariably forgot where they'd cached some sometimes we'd have volunteer peanut plants.

I should go to a larger city to find some. Then make all my coworkers eat the delicious, salty goodness.

you can sometimes find them amongst pet food or bird food shelves (usually at the very bottom)

Eel!

Ok, some sushi restaurants around here have eel (but no all; many are spring rolls-only and stick to more common ingredients), but it's pretty expensive and that's the only option.

Cornmeal-breaded fried catfish, decent collard greens, hush puppies.

There are a few Mexican candies that I just can't find here and I always thought it was odd because I live in an area with lots of Mexican grocery stores and bakeries. I always stock up when I go to Mexico.

Mexican food. Aaaaall the Mexican food.

Enchiladas, carne asada, adobo, tamales, good guac, good beans, posole, jicama salad. Ach, I miss it so much. I've gotten pretty good at making most of it (enough so it makes my Mexican friends happy, when they can't cook), but I still miss being able to walk over to the local hole-in-the-wall to buy food someone else made.

Aguadulce. ;____; Also everything else I ate in Costa Rica which technically can be found here, but it wouldn't be the same. Gallopinto, fresh corn tortillas with eggs, fresh fried plantains, and oh my gosh the fruit...I love tropical fruit, but imported tropical fruit doesn't hold a candle to the stuff you find in the actual tropics.

I miss it so much.

Dragonfruit.

We can actually grow them here (Southern California) and last year was the first one where ours made a lot of fruit... and someone came through and cleared them out before they finished ripening. Fucker.

I can get them fine, but they're really bland. Not at all like the ones you get in Asia.

Game meats. Elk, boar, venison, all that good stuff. I miss it so much. ;_;

At least a friend of mine ships me boar jerky when she can...

Italian beef and sausage

Eel sushi--or even at least the eel to make it with.

Mangosteen. And those greasy fast-food pasties that I think were from a British chain pasty shop. If I can even get pasties here, they always have meat in them. This place had all different kinds. Yeah, yeah, I could make savory turnovers from scratch, but they don't have that fast-food 'wow this is bad for me' taste.

You cannot find decent poutine in Los Angeles.

Supermarket steak and cheese pies.
"Jam raps" (or "jam wraps", I can't remember the spelling). Basically long straight doughnuts with jam in the middle, from fish & chip shops.
Creamed clover honey.
