My family went down to the Grant Wood Studio and Visitor Center when "American Gothic" was there. I don't know that it's my favorite painting of all time, but getting to see it up close was incredible. I remember there being these tiny flecks of green paint in the farmer's skin and being tickled by that detail because it wasn't something I expected.
