actually, it wasn't my favourite piece until I saw it live - the Broken Column, by Frida Kahlo

there's a lot of art that I really, really love. But I went to a Frida-and-Diego show and when I wound up in front of this I started crying without even realizing it. It hurts so much but I FEEL it in the deepest parts of my gut, even though I've never had to deal with chronic pain or feeling trapped or betrayed by my own body like she did, I can feel what she felt when I look at it.
