Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

Yes, thank you, the double standard was what I was trying (and obviously failing) to draw attention to.

yeah like, i get your point, and its not untrue, but this instance is not one of them since the speaker is actually from the region and part of the group they are talking about.

So are you saying that the only people who can criticize the misogyny in a culture are those who are from that culture?

Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
nah

you tried to use this situation as an example of a double standard: outsiders being able to criticize one group but not another, showing a bias in how groups are treated by them.

i'm saying the double standard you are talking about doesn't apply here because this situation doesn't involve an outsider talking about an other-group at all.

Look.

I've seen non-Asian Westerners call Asian cultures misogynistic, pedophilic, etc., and others chime in in agreement.

And then when non-Asian Westerners say the same thing about Muslims, they're called racist.

I want to know why.

Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

but... that has nothing to do with an asian person saying that their own region or culture has issues with gender equality. before you accuse me of being the double standard bearer, i'm also asian. can confirm many of our countries' cultures have issues just like everyone else's.

you're derailing anon's thread to make it all about some random other situation happening, when it hasn't happened. your agenda is clear but it's just not relevant or applicable here.

i suppose you can go on ranting about it though.

Why are you avoiding the question?

Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
because it's not on topic to what we were discussing, and i don't have an interest in answering it for you. making a new thread for it may get you more answers.

Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
then start your own thread for it since it's a separate issue

Done

http://fandomsecrets.dreamwidth.org/1479188.html?thread=929976852#cmt929976852

How long do you think it will take before the accusations of racism start flying and the thread gets shut down?

Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt

I wouldn't say that, but I would say that such people should be seen as the best authorities on the topic.

Look at it this way. Whose critique of Islam are you going to take more seriously: Ayaan Hirsi Ali's, or the rantings of some white Republican pundit who thinks the War on Christmas is a thing?

Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ayaan Hirsi Ali's of course! Yet she gets disinvited from colleges from feminist groups. I want to know why.

Re: Things you think the world would be better off without

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because college activist groups are breeding grounds for the sort of myopic America-centric neo-liberal faux-feminist anti-critical-thinking nonsense that leads to people making ridiculous statements like "the world would be better off if we killed all the straight white cismen."

(Anonymous) 2016-09-09 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I can't argue with that.
