And in every single one I've ever seen those supporting characters are either more attractive than the protagonists or hit on specific yaoi tropes fangirls love like mentor/student or rivals.

Whereas if the protagonists are hot and shippable they'll slash the fuck out of them no matter what colour their dicks are, even if there are other random white dudes available (see: Carver/Isaac by far the most popular DS3 pairing, Ajay/Min and Ajay/Sabal the most popular FC4 pairings, even though there are also white guys there).
