Jacob Wetterling

(Anonymous) 2016-09-10 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
Just before my 10th birthday, an 11 year-old boy named Jacob Wetterling was abducted at gunpoint in my home state and never seen again. This particular case was a huge, huge deal when I was growing up. I don't know why this one caught so much attention - maybe because he lived in a small town, maybe his parents managed to generate and maintain a lot of public interest - but everyone knew about it. Jacob's unknown abductor was like the boogeyman when we were kids.

Anyway, just this past week, a long-time person of interest confessed to kiling him and led police to his remains:

So, that happened.

Fellow Minnesotan here:

I know their extended family. I haven't seen them since the news hit. My own family doesn't watch local news during the fair so we were all blindsided by the news this Monday. At least there's closure now.

Another Minnesotan, and this just breaks my heart. I mean, not that it's a surprise, what happened, but seriously gut-wrenching. I cannot imagine the pain his family is going through. That is the ultimate nightmare, such a thing happening to your child. And what the hell kind of closure is this? How do you move on after hearing this?

I'm not from Minnesota and was a teen when this boy was abducted. I'm glad the family now knows what occurred and there may be closure.

I live in Iowa and this has been in the news in our state this week, too. Obviously, I'm glad the family finally has some answers, and isn't sitting there wondering where Jacob is anymore and things of that sort.

But man, hearing about the unsub's account of what he did to Jacob...real piece of work, this guy. And I can't even begin to imagine how tough it would be for the family to hear those particular details, and my heart goes out to them.

I hope this does give them at least

I hope this does give them at least <i.some</i> measure of peace and closure going forward, though.

Ooh, sorry for the weird stuff with the post there. Don't know what happened.
