But those two coat colours, together, are very common. In fact having two colours of fur is extremely common for cats, even tabbies do it, with lighter and darker shades. You know what is less common in cats? Solid colour. Tabby markings are the natural thing for cats so self-coloured cats are the odd ones who exist because humans breed them.

In an aside, self-coloured cats can easily be tabbies in disguise - a black cat can have black stripes on black.
