Carl Carlton's version of "Everlasting Love" (I enjoy the original by Robert Knight as well, but Carlton's is just so energetic)

The Bangles cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter"

Pearl Jam's cover of Last Kiss. I get it was the 60s and all, but Wayne Cochran sounds like he's singing at a beach party.

I prefer the Gary Jules cover of Mad World.

I also prefer the Disturbed cover of The Sound Of Silence. Mostly because it has more feeling to me than the original

Kate Nash's cover of the Black Kids' "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You." I like this one better because it turns it from a love song into one about friendships and not liking your friend's boyfriend (OR it's about lesbians.)

I know this is blasphemy, but I prefer Madonna's version of American Pie. Mostly because it was the first version I heard. Also Blackmore's Night's cover of Times are a Changin.

Nina Simone's "Here Comes the Sun," Peter Gabriel's (and the Airborne Toxic Event's) "The Book of Love," and of course Jimi's "All Along the Watchtower."

Joe Cocker's cover of "With a Little Help from My Friends" blows the Beatles version away.

I'm having trouble thinking of any others like that.

I like Cassandra Wilson's version of "Love Is Blindness." But I don't dislike the U2 version, nor Jack White's cover for that matter. They're all different, yet all the same song.

Speaking of Jack White, I think the The White Stripes' version of "Jolene" may be my personal favorite.

Nina Simone's version of Feeling Good.

Bet you didn't know that was a cover! I sure didn't until I happened upon the imdb of the guy who originally wrote and performed it and I was like holy shit.

Great Big Sea's cover of It's the end of the World. Their version is much faster than REMs. The original version sounds so slow to me now.

Holding out for a Hero by Imogen Heap. Dunno why, just like it better.

Jolene by the White Stripes.

Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Black Dog by The Johnny Favourite Swing Orchestra. Yes a swing version of a Zepplin song...and it does actually work, for me, at least.

The Johnny Cash version of "Hurt"
The Megas cover of "Sunglasses at Night" (I don't care that they're a Mega Man themed rock band, they managed to make Sunglasses at Night sound less "dramatic" and more BADASS.

Alanis Morissette's cover of "Crazy" (Seal).

Rasputina's cover of "Wish You Were Here" (Pink Floyd).

I feel utterly torn over "Running Up That Hill." Kate Bush oiginal or Placebo cover? I love them both, but they're so different, it's like apples and oranges.

I don't think I could actually recall all of them, but I will try dig up some:

"Sometimes When We Touch" by Newton - one of those flash-in-the-pan artists in the early 90s who tried to break into music with a cover song but disappeared almost immediately.

"I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" by the UB40. It's a bit more upbeat and jazz-style than Elvis.

"What Hurts The Most" by Cascada. Another case of an upbeat version. I honestly can't listen to the original because it's too sad.

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Westlife, though I do like the original as well, so it's much of a muchness.

"Eternal Flame" by Human Nature, but that is partly due to a legacy fondness for Human Nature, who are an Australian doo-wop group.

"Help Me If You Can" by John Farnham - he's an Australian singer. His version is done in a lot slower ballad form compared to the Beatles version, and while the Beatles version is not bad, I really first came to know the John Farnham version first.

"Night On Bald Mountain" by Apocalyptica. It's classical music, played on cellos, like it's heavy metal.

There are probably more but those are the ones I can recall right now.

I really love Sweet Talk Radio's take on "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow."

Lykke Li's version is good too. Honest to God, between the original, the Sweet Talk Radio version, and the Lykke Li version, I think "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" is my favorite song of all time.

Oh, and just because I prefer Rosario's voice, I prefer any song that features Mimi from RENT's movie soundtrack to the OBC, though the actress from the OBC has grown on me over time due to exposure.

Thanks to the last time someone asked this question on here, I found I love The Protomen's covers. I prefer Gambler's version of Total Eclipse of the Heart that is on The Protomen's Cover Up album.
