You might be able to find a factory second or one on gumtree that has been left over from a renovation project? That's where my friend found hers and it ended up being $40 brand new because it was too wide or something. Installing it is a pain though.

I don't think anywhere I've lived has ever been 100% decluttered except when I didn't own anything. I like the feeling of my mess being hidden away and the place looking like clean people live here though. My bathroom is so sparkly.

I'll have to look into that. I'm not 100 percent sure I could install on my own, but you never know!

I...rather like getting rid of junk that has no value to me or use. It feels good, to me, to know i'm not just holding on to stuff that's basically useless when someone else could really use it (or love it).

I had help. It's handy having friends who are in trades. Even if they're busy or you don't want to ask them, they can still tell you when someone else is ripping you off.

I think that is the attitude I would like to have. I'm trying. I have some guilt about donating so many things that were gifts and I keep thinking what if someone realises I got rid of something they gave me.

Well, even if it was a gift, there's no guilt in letting go of things. And if they haven't asked you six months or so after giving it if you 'still enjoy it' or something like that, it's likely it's not really on their mind. Unless it's some kind of heirloom or something, most people know any gift they give will have a 'shelf life', so to speak. Try not to let that hold you back - real friends won't let it bother them, if they know you were just overwhelmed by clutter and had to let go.

You have an excellent point! If I have forgotten it in a cupboard for two years, they have probably forgotten they gave it to me. I'll have to make another flow chart.

I do have garage space for the 30 or so vases and christmas platters my grandmother insists I will need when I get married. Thank god. I don't know if I could get rid of them but I'm glad I don't have to look at the vase that's shaped like a creepy clown head every day.

No one on the *planet* will *ever* need a vase shaped like a clown head, married or no. Take my word. :)

You never know!

I might have unexpected guests I want to make feel very uncomfortable. I also have a collection of ceramic religious figures and a large framed picture of jesus on the cross.

If I ever got married to someone, I could end up with horrible in-laws. Maybe this was the scenario these gifts were intended for. I could make a guest room so awful that nobody would want to sleep in it.

My mom got a stove in a similar fashion. My folks are renovating a house they bought to move into, which is a project she's always wanted to do, and she can't afford like super high-end appliances. But she was stove shopping and the store had a Viking range that they'd ordered in the wrong color for a different customer and now it was sitting their taking up inventory space so they sold it to her at a discount. She got it for the price she'd have paid for a brand she was actually considering buying! (And she loves the color.)

I love finding cheaper things at just the right time! That sounds like a good find.

I got my desk just when they were going to send them back because the legs weren't the standard height. It's the perfect height desk for me. I don't need to put the chair height up and sit with my legs dangling just to write at it.

I really am more comfortable with a footstool when sitting at a desk. idk if I'd like a shorter desk...interesting thought. Maybe.
