Okay, I haven't actually read the comic so I was going by what someone who had had told me. When I mentioned to themy I didn't get why he was even there they were like NO OMG HE WAS THERE IN THE COMIC HE HAD TO BE THERE IN THE MOVIE.

Guess that person wasn't entirely correct. :)

Like I said, it's possible that I'm forgetting something about his involvement...but I'm preeeeetty sure he wasn't crucial to the storyline.

Plus, there were a TON of characters involved in the Civil War storyline that weren't in the movie so they totally could have left out spider-man if they wanted to. Hell, I think the Punisher probably played a bigger role than spider-man in the comic version since he more or less pushed Cap into the realization that his side was wrong (which I don't agree with tbh because just about everything prior to that seemed like it was leading the reader to agree with Cap), but the movie was just fine without him
