Well, I won't lie and say I'm happy that they're in my new fandom, but I'm glad if there's been a net positive change to fandom overall? Heaven knows a lot of new fandoms have been disasters lately.

As far as Voltron fandom actually goes: use your block feature on Tumblr generously, follow people selectively, and moderate comments on AO3. If you ship one of the "problematic" pairings, there's usually a blog or two that collects the best of the fanworks/discussion in one place so you can avoid the tag entirely, and that's a good decision too.

If you produce fanworks for the problematic ships then you're fucked though, antis are already making callout posts and it's only a matter of time until another Plebcomics/Zamii incident occurs again.

Fandom has been a disaster for a couple years now. Dragon Age fandom was the harbinger for how bad things could get after the second game, but the Homestuck dominant era was when things really started to go to shit all across the board if you ask me. Whether or not that's attributed to the generation gap finally colliding is anyone's guess.

And that's just good advice to follow for fandom in general these days, period. And that's really kind of sad, tbh.
