I think a certain amount of it is because she leans into a bit of a Roman a clef thing that forces people to analyze it. I also think some people just want to hate Taylor Swift.

I don't hate her.

I just don't see what's so great about her.

If you don't hate her, you're not one of the people being discussed. No one's complaining that some people just aren't into Taylor Swift. People are complaining about a certain subset of anti-fans treating her like she's the Antichrist instead of, I dunno, just changing the station when one of her songs come on like a normal human being would.

I think, even in cases where you don't hate someone, feeling neutral or slightly unmoved by something that everyone else is raving about can breed a certain resentful defensiveness. Not saying that's true in this case but it does happen.

Also, Taylor Swift releases really really good pop music. That's mostly what's so great about her, to me.
