(Anonymous) 2016-09-14 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)However, having said that, I'm really not sure how the argument follows on from there, especially as regards SF&F as a genre. I don't think it's that book's fault that media is completely lacking in asexual representation. And, I mean, i dont think it would be a good solution to say that we're only allowed to have cisgender aliens and heterosexual vampires. So I'm just kind of not sure where that goes.

There's no reason you can't have an alien race who are all guaranteed cis and het, in comparison to humans being shown as explicitly not identical that way, for example. (Preferably without any sort of "but the aliens were the real humans all along~" kind of crap.)
