Yes, the bestest. But not the specialist in terms of personality traits. The bestest *fan*. Who'd met the stars the most. Who owned it on vinyl. Who was fluent in the language. That sort of thing. Not how damaged and weird they were.

But even if you're right, that's kind of the point. You could be on a bulletin board and never encounter this kind of thing if it was relegated to off-topic folders. On Tumblr there's virtually no escape.

I agree that the way that communities were structured made it easier to find your niche and avoid the sort of undifferentiated massing-together that Tumblr has created. But that doesn't mean that the people are somehow remarkably different. And blaming it on them is stupid.

You're forgetting the glory days of Snape wives, FFVII house, "you laugh because I'm different, I laugh because you're all the same". Same shit, different coating.
