To follow up on this, most villainous organizations devoted to an ideal, as opposed to just rampaging and pillaging, are at least theoretically sympathetic. Who doesn't want to end poverty or root out government corruption? The Nazis have an ideal that's recognizable and understandable, but so abhorrent as to prevent sympathy.
