She wasn't even chosen, not really, was she? Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I read, she didn't become Warchief because of her leadership abilities or because she's respected; it was because "the spirits said so!"

I mean, come on. Even for Blizzard, that's some lazy writing.

She was the best option. Baine is a bit young and naive. No one cares about Lor'themar. I was surprised he was invited to the meeting. The goblin and panda leaders are way to new to the Horde.

In a time of war, Sylvanas is the best option. She has also proven herself as a capable leader who actually seems to care about her people (which include the other Horde races).

Lor'themar needs love!

And all I can say is thank goodness GSJ did not get renamed Warchief! [Maybe GSJ will get less focus given the retirement of his number one fanboy...]

Lor'themar is the kid that is always picked last during team sports. :(

I know! It's so depressing, especially given how awesome he was in the Sunwell manga.

It is! I bet a lot of people would name Kaelthas as the leader if asked because that is a name they hear more.

same anon:

Would the Blood Elves survive if Kael'thas was made ruler again of their people?

SAURFANG FOR WARCHIEF 2016

(Anonymous) 2016-09-16 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
My personal theory is they did it because she's the most iconic World of Warcraft horde leader after Thrall. Although I was kinda hoping Lor'themar would have his time in the sun given they're fighting the Legion and Blood Elves were heavily involved in BC.

But my dearest hope is that

Vol'jin just faked his death and he's hiding out to lay down some troll hurt later on.

afaik it's the whole "immortal soul" idea again, like with illidan

Actually, it has something to do with a saytr, maybe Xavius? But in the lore, he (or some other Saytr anyway) was resurected by the Legion using his soul and they placed it into a new body, so...it's not exactly unheard of. And I do kind of hope in some kind of twisted way, Gul'dan has done something similar to Varian...

OF COURSE, I JUST WANT MY KING BACK. :C

She's pretty popular so that was a big part of their decision I reckon, not that she isn't a capable leader but I'd have liked her merits to come up rather than 'because the spirits said so' mostly because I find that lazy.

Though part of me would have liked someone else to get a shot at it, mostly because the other Horde leaders get ignored a lot. (That being said the Alliance leaders outside of Varian rarely get screentime either, Blizz basically have their faves and don't really deviate outside of them very much).

(Anonymous) 2016-09-17 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm wondering who is going to be the focus for the Alliance now that Varian isn't in the picture, and don't get me started on some of the tinhatting theories regarding him

I assumed his son would be leader, which is why they aged his model up recently.

same anon:

Oh, Anduin does become leader - especially if you read his Legion comic. But I'm curious if he'll get focused on again since he was the focus of last expac. I'm hoping desperately for Greymane to get some decent focus and Tyrande (I'm all for you abandoning Malfurion at this point!)

Sadly I think we're all going to be under the thumb of the One True King Anduin. :/

Not that I dislike the kid, he's okay, but the Alliance never worked that way, it was more of a council-type thing rather than one overall ruler, but welp, looks like the 15 year old is probably gonna be calling the shots.

hopefully he's going to be useful and actually listen to the adults and not fuck things over. ::is insanely hopeful::

He at least seems to be reasonable so far but we'll see how that goes tbh(I'm just a petty Nelf player that refuses to defer to the human King as my sovereign ruler, I've already got my Chosen of Elune thanks).

It drives me nuts because Sylvanas has never given a shit about the Horde. Half the time it's questionable if she even gives a shit about the Undead! Sylvanas does Sylvanas. And her motivations for doing anything have been so vague and convoluted since Wrath. It's like Blizzard chose for her to survive her final confrontation with Arthas, but then had no idea what to do with her so they went with a half-baked plot with her and the Val'kyr.

I mean, can you imagine if she became Warchief back in the day instead of Garrosh? It'd be ALL THE PLAGUEWAGONS!

[personal profile] world_eater 2016-09-17 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
I like the idea of her as a warchief in the kind of a "the spirits knew that sometimes you just gotta have a ruthless bastard to deal with shit" way. Like the spirits know it is terrible in the long run but they can't think of that now with the Legion here.

Of course then Sylvanas was being all perfect and leaderly in Broken Shore which really concerns me that they're just gonna retcon her into a good leader. (Stormheim kind of eased my worries, but not that much...)
