Yeah, all of this. Also cause she's a person who is allowed to be a mess and fall apart (without being patronized), which is rare for female leads.

It's so fucking refreshing too. All we ever seem to get on TV during family crisis moments are dads who are "really worried about their family" but show no real sign of it other than acting like dicks to everyone around them while being filled with masculine rage (see: The Strain).

Spoilers, I guess.

All the characters are refreshing. I also liked how the Chief lost a child and this is used in his characterization, but not in the "manpain" way, rather that it makes him caring and empathetic, which is also so refreshing really.

Also having characters make mistakes that don't continue to define their entire characterization throughout the show (Nancy), having characters redeemed in a way that doesn't steal autonomy from other characters (Steve), having the female characters save the day or save their friends as often as the male characters do (or more, in 011's case)...

I fucking love that show for all of that holy shit.

Me, too. I wasn't sure i'd like it, at first, Hopper kind of annoyed me but then...it got so good. And i *love* how Joyce interacts with Eleven in the pool, omfg.

I know right?! Literally the best and most competent TV parent in fucking ever.

I think the best thing about this show is it sets up all of these characters who are surface level 80's archetypes and then systematically smashes ALL of the tropes. It's beautiful.

OP will soon realize the error of their ways, or I swear lol

I loved the pool scene.
