(Anonymous) 2016-09-18 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)*At its best, this lack of internal consistency is from movie to movie. At its worst, it's within a single movie. Sadly, CA:CW is firmly in the latter camp. Exhibit A: every single aspect of Tony recruiting Peter Parker to fight for his side.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-19 09:17 am (UTC)(link)But because terrifying government aggression and and conspiracies and civil rights violations are constantly used in the MCU in many other plots (and, let's be honest, also this one) as a contrast to make the actual heroes of our movie look good/have obstacles, the obviously empirically morally correct choice looking at the in-universe specifics is 'holy shit, there was a HYDRA senator, maybe we should just torch every government agency to the ground, a state of nature would probably be less risky than this, SURE steve can be emperor - wait, what, you want to give governments MORE POWER? over SUPERHEROES? are you MAD????'
which is not even getting into, like, how hysterically badwrong the comic movie writing in CW was in terms of like, how the fuck international treaties actually work
so if someone is approaching what the movie CW actually gave us in terms of principles, they're gonna be STRONGLY TONY, and if someone is approaching it in terms of Watsonian specifics and harm-reduction given the available choices, they're gonna be STRONGLY STEVE. The lack of middle ground is because it doesn't make sense to come in with like, half and half reasons for choosing.
(Your closest thing to middle ground is probably someone who naturally starts with one of those approaches, but whose fave is the other central character. Then you at least get them being charitable and considering the opposing POV.)
(Also, Tony is a dumbass for projecting "I shouldn't have Ultron" on every fucking body else, JUST SAYING. And literally all of them are dumb for backing Hawkeye's call and letting an un- or half-trained Scarlet Witch who made HELLA BAD AND SPITEFUL DECISIONS THROUGHOUT ULTRON be on the team and ESPECIALLY do operations in civilian metro areas. Heads up steve, natasha: places where black people live are not your training grounds. That said, like, I am glad Crossbones did not acquire a bioweapon? I think we are all glad about that.)
