" I don't really see how you can avoid having that impact what you think of their work."

The secret is I don't bother to look them up to make sure they are social justice approved.

What about if you become aware of it through happenstance?

Well, if they are not social justice approved, that's a feature, not a bug, as far as I'm concerned.

Okay, sure, spite is awesome, woohoo, yay, fuck social justice groups.

Setting all that aside, though: is there really no circumstance where you could learn something about the writer that might impact on how you experience their work? Or might make you dislike it?

Well, it's more because the writers who are really into social justice tend to let it bleed in a bad way into their writing, and I don't enjoy reading whiny preachy screeds about the evils of whatever the flavor of the day is.

It might make me dislike them personally enough to not want to give them my money, if they are loud and annoying and make it perfectly clear that they don't wish to have People Like Me buying their stuff. In which case, fine, I won't (except used, if I really do enjoy their work). My To-Be-Read stack is higher than my head. Winnowing out the assholes makes my life easier.

But it has no impact on the work itself. There's a guy I think is rather a dick, but holy shit he writes really well. I buy his books and don't follow him on Twitter.
