What makes you feel old?

No matter how young you actually are.

Going to bed before 10. But I get up at 5:30 to walk on the treadmill so it is necessary.

Any time I listen to the radio and have no idea who's singing. Although I read somewhere (the New Yorker?) that "not know what's popular music anymore" is the first thing people always say makes them feel old, and people as young as early 20s say it, so at least I'm not alone in this.

I lost interest in current popular music when it started (IMHO) getting very boring around the early '00s. the only relatively recent popular song I really liked was Happy by Pharrell.

I didn't know what music was popular even as a teenager. I didn't feel old, just very un-hip.

Last April, a high school student in an intelligent conversation about the Great Depression called Occupy Wall Street something "from when we were little." And I felt old.

Wouldn't you have been 17-18 during Occupy Wall Street?

Yeah. Is 17-18 "little" by any metric?

Like I mentioned the other day, hearing things like Nirvana or Backstreet Boys being played on the "Oldies" stations.

Seeing friends from High school having kids, getting married, buying houses.

Hearing younger people saying "Spongebob! I grew up watching Spongebob!" which makes you think "I grew up watching H.R Puffinstuff/Transformers/Animaniacs. Am I really THAT old?"

People giving you the "Aren't you a little old for that?" spiel when you mention that you like comics/video games/cartoons.

I teach first-year writing to college students. The other day, I handed out a New York Times editorial as a writing prompt, and heard one of my students exclaim "Oh wow! It's older than I am!" The editorial was from 1998.

I watch a lot of Twitch and mod some chats. I am absolutely ancient compared to the mass amount of people in those chats and I feel it.

Today (now technically yesterday) is my brother's 21st birthday. Nothing like someone turning old enough to legally drink when you have memories from before he was born, eh?
