Fair enough.

For me, engage with implies something more active, while being aware of something is just something personal that doesn't involve any additional action outside that awareness.

And since the current opinion seems to be that being aware is not enough, you have to talk about the problematic elements every time you mention a work and never, ever, just enjoy it because that enjoyment itself is problematic... well, it's easy to assume the worse at that "engage with."
