I love the 1951 movie so much.

I would also like every single horror movie writer/director to sit down and watch it because the way they build tension and fear in the first half-3/4 of that movie is a million times better than the way it's done in 90% of the movies these days.

Yes!

This movie does such a good job of building tension, the actual monster is almost an afterthought (which honestly is probably how it should be). I was so freaked out by the end there could have been literally anything and I would have been scared of it.

As someone who respects both adaptations, I'm ashamed to say I haven't seen the Hawks film in a very long time, but this conversation is making me really want to give it a rewatch.
