It's in the Bible, and a lot of people in countries like the U.S. where circumcision is still very much a thing make many rules based on Christianity and the Bible without thinking it through in great detail.

I don't believe it's the case that Americans have such a high circumcision rate due to religion. They do it because it's a cultural norm, it's been accepted within secular settings, and hospitals flat out offer and treat it as a normal thing for male infants. Somehow, circumcised penises are seen as either more attractive, or "easier to clean", or elsewise "healthier". I honestly don't think the vast majority of people think of religion at all when they circumcise their kids.

I thought circumcision was explicitly NOT a rule for christians so they could convert without worry of having to look different in the Roman baths or whatever. It doesn't make sense for someone who's heavily christian to circumcise for religious reasons. See the anti-masturbation comment above.
