Bride and groom throwing their own wedding

(Anonymous) 2016-09-20 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
I realize it's a consequence of people marrying later and actually having the resources to throw their own wedding (plus it's kind of shitty to expect retired parents on fixed incomes to pay for it), but the more weddings of friends and cousins I go to, the more I think fuck it. This isn't "Your special day." It's "Your special day where you went to a lot of effort and expense putting on a party for other people who are not the ones getting married today." No way am I spending months planning that shit. I have stuff to do. No way am I putting the equivalent of a down payment on a house (or a large chunk of one) towards this. I want the house instead.

If I get married, I would love to elope, but I'd give my friends and family the option of throwing us a wedding. "You think we should have a wedding? Okay, we'll have exactly the wedding you want, but it's up to you to make it happen." Mind you, this is coming from someone who used to fantasize about my ~*Dream Wedding*~ ...except the fantasy didn't involve having to do work, and now that I know weddings are work, my dream wedding has shifted to simply being one where I don't have to do work.
