32. But, aren't you contradicting yourself, you complain that they want you to watch something, at the same time you want the same they want. And I just don't get this need to have friends watch the same things you do.

35. I love that song.

49. Someone is bitter because of the unpublished manuscript they've been hiding under their mattress since forever.

32 OP

The point is that they're being hypocritical by insisting I watch what they love but making no effort to watch what I watch.
And I just want someone who'll understand me when I say "oh no, X happened to Y!" and who'll share my interest.

But people are like that, 99% of the time they're thinking of themselves and the other 0.01 they're thinking of how what other people's do affects them.

Look at yourself, have you given any thought to watching what they watch, genuinely because you want to try it? All you can think is how you want them to watch what you want them to watch.

Yeah, it's nice having people to share your shows (though lately I've discovered the wonders of enjoying things on your own without having other people to harsh your squee), but there is no point in forcing someone to watch something.

But are you making an effort to watch what they recommend? It's a two way street in a way. And I know it is frustrating when no one watches what you like and you want to share it. But maybe if you watch what they like they might be more open to watch what you like. Then maybe you will all discover something new.

Although props for Life on Mars. :)

Maybe so, but the truth still stands. The books are terrible.

Yes, they are, but books don't have to be a masterpiece to be enjoyable, don't people realize that a large portion of Twilight fans are aware it's cheesy crack with no nutritional value whatsoever, and for many of us that's what makes it fun.

Plus, this person sounds really bitter, what is it to anyone if some people enjoy crappy books?

Not any of the fans I'VE ever met, I'm afraid.

Maybe, but they have a pretty good point. There are so many better books out there that get overshadowed by books like Twilight. It's very frustrating.

Re: re: 49

Oh, I'm sure of it, just as there were parts of the HP fandom that insisted that Jo Rowling deserved a noble prize.

Life isn't fair, who knows what makes it so that one books a best seller while what could be considered a better work goes ignored? Harry Potter isn't a master piece either, and yet there it is, and I bet you there are people who angrily ask themselves why is Potter so popular while better books don't get the recognition they deserve.

I give everything a try, I love books and I'll read anything, Twilight to me is like Valley of the Dolls but less tragic and with Vampires.

At least Harry Potter had character development and characters with flaws. I'm sorry, but Twilight's characters.... Ugh. I wanted to stab them all with forks.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess!

LOL, I know, these books are made of everything I've ever despised, it's full of cliches, corny romance, a Mary Sue and a Gary Stu as the main characters, the vampires are so perfect it hurts.

I can't even write about it without laughing to myself, and I'm sure the author meant for it all to be taken seriously, but it's just one of the most accidentally hilarious things I've ever read.

And yet, I like them, not with the passion with which I love Harry Potter or His Dark Materials, but I like them.

Personally, I keep trying to tell myself that the author just knew what the market wanted and halfassed a series to make a buttload of money, but sadly, she seems really genuine about it. :O

Er. I've read all the books and I laugh at them more than anything else. At this point I just want to see how everything turns out in the fourth book...

Hahaha, same here. Which is why I don't like them at all! So 'tis the opposite of you, I suppose. But I can respect that. At least you know the books are ridiculous. XD

[identity profile] acaciabrown.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 09:32 am (UTC)(link)
Or the books are shit and it's annoying when people sing their praises? I digress it would be sad if it was a bitter author, but it stands to reason that people take Twilght seriously. And... and that's just WRONG.
