Yes. Tsuna's crush on Kyoko is canon. Them being in some sort of relationship other than friendship is not. He is the obvious love interest and quite likely to end up with him, but they're not dating or anything so as a "ship" they are not canon. A lot of people seem to be making up their own definitions of canon lately. Slash couples in general anime =/= canon. No matter how much subtext there is =/= canon. Canon = text. In your face, cannot be mistaken, overt text.

Oh, I definitely agree with that. I mean, I scream "THIS IS CANON" every once in a while, but only in jest. It's the people who take this very seriously that worries me. I mean, why is it such a life-and-death matter to some people? Eh, I would never know. So yes. Tsuna -> Kyoko is canon. Tsuna/Kyoko is not (yet). I don't even know if the manga-artist's going to even keep it canon, seeing as how 99% of her fans are slash fans. Ambiguous subtext for the win!

I think it's pretty much the norm to pander to fangirls these days by giving them subtext, but it still happens even when there's true canon pairs. Since when has a canon girlfriend/wife ever stopped a slash pairing? Since never. Behold! The power of cheese Slash!
