18. I... never really saw the appeal of that. Tony took advantage of Maxxie when he was drunk, and then Michelle made Maxxie feel guilty about it and publicly apologize when it wasn't even his fault.

I just really don't see why anyone could otp a relationship based on manipulation.

23. TRUE FACTS. I love his voice. I wish I had more by him, but everything he says is automatically amazing in my eyes.

49. That's kind of how I feel about it, too. (With the exception of not being near her age at all.) I read the first one, barely remembered it as more than mindless cheese. I tried reading the second one and couldn't get through ten pages - it read like terrible fanfiction. The deleterians would have sporked the shit out of that mess. But I'm forcing myself to read all three, just because I like to be informed when I tell people why I hate their fandoms. (Wow, that sounded a lot meaner than it really is, lol).

Sadly, I feel that mary-sue characters will ALWAYS be more popular than characters with real originality. Because no one fangirls like the 11-18 age range that kind of character tends to attract. Have you seen this (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.twilightmoms.com%2F&ei=AqACSOjHBoS-wQH_yZH7CA&usg=AFQjCNFusvd9ECzoSGbnRyN_WBrtZ8QiFA&sig2=no9i5e1Ii6CiGlPt5D_szA)? That's more depressing to me than the countless friends I have interested in the books. They, at least, might grow out of it one day...

Also, LOL at the amount of "ur jus jeluz" responses to your secret. Guess what guys? Sometimes books legitimately suck. The characterizations are shallow, the prose is often painfully purple, and the technical aspect of the writing is not particularly great either. Let's have a look, shall we? From the second book, since I have it on my computer.

"When I pulled it out, I gasped aloud. Edward looked just as beautiful as he did in real life, staring at me out of the picture with the warm eyes I'd missed for the past few days. It was almost uncanny that anyone could look so . . . so . . . beyond description. No thousand words could equal this picture." (p 65)

""I'm no good for you, Bella."
"Don't be ridiculous." I wanted to sound angry, but it just sounded like I was begging. "You're the very best part of my life."" (p 69)

"There was a light, unnatural breeze. My eyes flashed open. The leaves on a small vine maple shuddered with the gentle wind of his passage.

He was gone.

With shaky legs, ignoring the fact that my action was useless, I followed him into the forest. The evidence of his path had disappeared instantly. There were no footprints, the leaves were still again, but I walked forward without thinking. I could not do anything else. I had to keep moving. If I stopped looking for him, it was over.

Love, life, meaning . . . over." (p 73)

"The babble ceased, and then picked up again with more intensity. A confusing swirl of faces moved over me. Sam's voice was the only one that -nade sense in the chaos, perhaps because my ear was against his chest.

"No, I don't think she's hurt,' he told someone. "She just keeps saying 'He's gone.'"

Was I saying that out loud? I bit down on my lip." (p 76)

"I was like a lost moon—my planet destroyed in some cataclysmic, disaster-movie scenario of desolation—that continued, nevertheless, to circle in a tight little orbit around the empty space left behind, ignoring the laws of gravity." (p 201)

LoL RIGHT. Jealousy, that's it.

...OH LORD HOW DO PEOPLE READ AN ENTIRE BOOK OF THAT

Re: 49

[identity profile] ether-bunny.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
The real question is how to people take an entire book of that seriously. I can read it, I just spend most of my time laughing at Bella Swan's omgangst and misery.

Re: 49

[identity profile] antiva.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
...I'm just crying at the amount of ellipses in those excerpts alone.

xD I want to applaud you for finishing that book, honestly.

Re: 49

[identity profile] ether-bunny.livejournal.com 2008-04-14 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? The first book was packed with semicolons, at least one per page, it was so irritating. It seems they have been replaced with ellipses.

Well, I will gladly take applause and praise of any kind. But it's honestly... I don't know, like reading really bad fanfiction, basically. But I seem to know so many people who like it... inexplicably that I'm putting myself through it. It's easier if I read it for the lulz.

I just realized using ellipsis in my comment, om nom nom delicious irony. And I'm a fan of semicolons myself, but people need to learn when to use them and when to just start a new sentence. D:

Ahaha, I LOVE reading bad fanfiction, but only if people widely see it as such. Over half the secrets of this book are of how much they adore this book, and when I see these quotes, I just weep for the literary taste of people.

...Of course, after having just reread Picture of Dorian Gray, you don't want some failing purple-prosey copycat. xD; 18th Century prose rarely translates well in modern writing, imho.

"I was like a lost moon—my planet destroyed in some cataclysmic, disaster-movie scenario of desolation—that continued, nevertheless, to circle in a tight little orbit around the empty space left behind, ignoring the laws of gravity." (p 201)

WHAT. THE. FUCK?
I keep hearing about how bad it is, but I never took the time to actually read it. I'm not sure If I should be really thankful and proud of myself for not giving into temptation or immensely sad for missing all the LULZ.

Agreed so hard. It's been sitting on my friend floor, and Ive been tempted to poke around just because it couldn't be THAT bad...

THANK YOU FOR SAVING ME D:

... I only read the first book. That was enough. I don't know how you put yourself through it, and for that, I applaud you.

Actually, I know the person who made secret 49. It's definitely not jealousy. She's far more eloquent than Ms. Meyer ever will be.
