I find it sad when people think it's obviously more normal and realistic to always put the female characters as the weak, insecure, and less skilled.

Sakura isn't really weak. (At least not post-time-skip.) It's just more believable to have characters like her, who exist in the middle ground, so to speak, because based on what I see -- the overwhelming majority of people (of ALL genders) are like her.

When I speak of realism, I'm not talking about just girls. I speak for all genders. It irritates me to see that when I say "weak, insecure, and less skilled" is more realistic, everybody assumes I think so because she's female. It's because she's /human/. I expect the same of males.

I agree with you, generally speaking. But certain stories aren't told in a realistic style, and when a world allows what would be unrealistic in our world, but shortchanges the female characters of that particular sort of awesomeness I think something is wrong.

In adventure, we enjoy the fantastic, the insane, the impossible, and I think these things should be equally available to both female and male characters. The reason people become so excited about the female characters with physical strength, sense of adventure, and general toughness is that they're so rare.
