Yeah, but Zack was never presented as anything but a SOLDIER first class; sure, he was awesome, but it was never implied he was the only one of his kind, that he never had anyone he looked up to, or even that he was the best. Sephiroth was supposed to be special, a monster born from Hojo's demented mind, the only living descendant of Jenova, the source of anguish for so many, from his birth to his death.
Sure, most people do ironise over the walking self-promoting unit calling himself Gackt, but the real gripe tends to be with his twisting of the canon (which is where I think the true test of Sue-ness lies).
XIV is being slammed simply for being female
Hm, I haven't actually seen anyone say this. In the comments I've read, the sentimesnt tends to match mine; a fourteenth memeber of Organization XIII is worrying. Of course, it's not like I presume she'll be a Sue before actually playing. I just think her position makes it a possibility. It is the premise of countless Sue-fics, you know.
Fact is, no matter what, she gonna die. So I don't see why people are getting so worked up over her. She's doomed like Aerith.
Ah, poor Aeris. I cried so much when I reached that part (yeah, I'm a sap). But I don't think something as trivial as character death will affect the feelings in fandom; after all, the most popular characters are still the Organization, and they're pretty dead, yeah? XD
