I don't know what this is but I like the look of it.

Rankin-Bass's Flight of Dragons :D You can find bits and pieces of it floating about on YouTube.

I'll have to look into Rankin-Bass more in general. I'm only familiar with the Christmas stuff.

same anon:

They did "The Last Unicorn", "Thundercats", "Silver Hawks", "The Hobbit ('77)" (which terrified the crap out of me. Thank you Brother Theodore.), "Return of the King ('80)"

OH MAN MY FAVE

I was so obsessed with this movie as a kid, I mean... a rewatch a day of the poor VHS tape it was on obsessed, for a while. To this day it absolutely informs a lot of my thoughts about how dragons 'work' (or at least how they *should*).

(Anonymous) 2016-09-23 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
agreed on so many levels!

Have you read the real Peter Dickenson's book? Or the other series the movie was inspired by "The Dragon and the George"?

I highly recommend the first - the second not as much but it has quite a few of the movie characters, albeit in slightly different roles

OP

No, but it's definitely on my to-do list.

There is absolutely no need for this to be a secret. The Flight of Dragons is fucking great and I love everything about it.

+1

(hell, for reasons known only to my Sims 3 game, one of the dogs they wanted my Sim to adopt was named "Gorbash". I have no blessed clue as to how that name ever appeared in my game but it had me amused to no end that night)

This movie is so formative to so many of my likes in fantasy. It's so awesome.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-23 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that movie. When I was a kid, I taped it off TV, and wore out the VHS watching it over and over again, fast-forwarding through the commercials.

I fail to see why this is a secret. It seems perfectly reasonable to me.

While we're talking about dragon movies, I love Dragonheart. What are you other dragon movie favourites?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-24 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
YES. (Though I agree with others: there is no need for this to be a secret! This is an amazing movie!)

Has there ever been a proper dvd/br release? I only have one VHS copy, so I watch it very, very rarely.

Yeah, there's definitely a dvd because I've got it! I don't know if there's an official soundtrack release, but there SHOULD be.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-25 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you remember where you got it? I'd love to have one, but I've only seen "on demand" ones through Amazon.

I got it from Barnes & Noble's website about 3 or 4 years ago. Here. There's a family friend who always gives me a B&N gift card at the holidays (he still has one of their stores by his house, lucky fellow!), so that's why there.

I have a copy of it on my computer at all times

This should not be a secret - just simple fact! I love this movie so much. The music is just beautiful.
