You joke, but actually...

If Snape were a really hard left pro-animal rights vegetarian ecologist who studied proximal factors in population genetics and believed the only way to results was decades of remote northern/arctic field research...

What I'm saying is, he's a fucking hardcore guy and routinely makes his students incredibly salty about how difficult his tests are in an "easy" subject (which actually isn't easy if you don't dumb it down). He's also a brilliant researcher. Academically speaking, he probably has more in common with Snape than I would have thought lol.

I'm not really joking actually. I would love this kind of character (yes, of course, you're going to change things here and there, but the spirit of the man would probably still be in your character). I'm definitely not Snape bashing either, he's my second favourite HP character.

What kind of story would your supervisor's fictional counterpart be in?

Sorry, I just get so excited about stories and characters. And, of course, I'm convinced that everyone on FS is either a wannabe or a failed writer.

Well, I'm thinking of what I'm working on right now, which is a military sci-fi/fantasy set on...well, basically modern day earth.

Before you go "what", the military part of it isn't really the focus. It's no Tom Clancy-esque ordeal where every character is basically their name, rank, marriage status, and weapon choice lol. It's more like a backdrop to the events of the story, which sort of trend more toward the supernatural.

The character with the habits taken from my supervisor is one of the main characters; a captain who eventually winds up becoming the base commander. Pretty much your quintessential no-nonsense man's man, who very much has a "results first, everything else second" outlook on life. So... not exactly Snape, per se, but also probably the character most likely to make someone cry, so maybe it fits haha.

Not what I would normally go for, but sounds interesting enough. But you have to keep the tea thing, the tea thing is awesome. Especially in this military manly man 'people would expect me to drink nothing but ethanol and acidlike coffe' context.

Oh, he's only a stereotype on the outside. I pretty much love fucking with reader's expectations so there are also a bunch of other "typical military blokes" who wind up being... not exactly as straightforward as they appear.

If you go look at something British - the thing that comes to mind for me is Doctor Who Third Doctor Unit era - then drinking strong tea would be perhaps a stereotype for British military. Maybe a Brit military man would be a total coffee snob with his own espresso machine.
